Monitoring settings

Every field on a configuration's Monitoring page — the remote-control countdown, and the three settings that decide whether anyone hears about an offline device, how soon, and who.

Monitoring is one page of a device configuration. It appears on booking panel, fixed seat panel, event panel and signage configurations — the same four fields each time.

Open Panel configurations

Everything here is a property of the configuration, so it applies to every device sharing it. Two panels that need different answers need different configurations.

Field	What it does	When to change it
Ask before remote control	Shows a ten-second countdown on the device before an administrator takes it over, so the person standing there can refuse. Turned off, a takeover starts immediately.	Leave on for panels by a door, where somebody may be mid-booking. Turn off for screens nobody stands at — otherwise every takeover waits ten seconds for a refusal that will never come.
Device offline notification	Send a warning email to the user when the device goes offline. The switch for the whole alert. Off, nothing is sent however long a device is down.	On, for any device whose failure somebody needs to hear about before a person walks past it.
Offline threshold	How long a device must stay unreachable before the email goes out. Nothing is sent until it has fully elapsed.	Lengthen it if brief network noise is producing mail about panels that fixed themselves; shorten it if genuine faults are going unnoticed for too long.
Notify user / user groups	Who receives both the offline email and the recovery email. Takes individual people, groups, or a mixture; the picker only offers people who can manage devices.	Whenever the people responsible change. Prefer a group — it can be updated once rather than on every configuration naming the same people.

Offline threshold and Notify user / user groups are hidden until Device offline notification is switched on, and both are cleared when it is switched back off. Turning the alert off and on again therefore loses the recipient list.

What this page does not control

Whether the device is monitored at all. Every paired device reports its connection state to Device monitoring regardless of anything here. This page only decides whether an email follows.
Health warnings. A weak signal, a hot processor, low storage or a flat battery are shown on Screen monitoring and are never emailed, whatever is set here.
What the email says. The wording comes from the shared email templates, not from the configuration.
Where the email comes from. The sender address and the language are the tenant’s mail settings — see send email from your own address.
Devices with no hardware paired to them. A device record awaiting its hardware is never reported offline, so no threshold applies to it.
